A month of celebrations: saluting women, record rentals and local heroes

Putting the wonder back into Women’s Month

Steyn City celebrated Women’s Month with a decadent ladies’ brunch hosted by one of South Africa’s favourite television personalities, Leanne Manas.

While Steyn City’s moms were treated to a delectable egg and salmon feast, their kids got to try out the facilities at the Skate Park, which are varied enough to wear out even the most energetic child.

The highlight of the morning was, undisputedly, Leanne’s reflection on her recent summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. Her speech was a thought-provoking insight into what it takes to be a wife and mother in a world that’s more demanding and fast paced than ever. She pointed out that, while we might not all wish to climb mountains, some of the assets and qualities which helped her reach Africa’s highest peak are equally useful as we try to surmount every day challenges: the recognition that we are as capable as we allow ourselves to be, for example, and the acknowledgement that wherever we are in life, the presence of our families are a comfort and a source of inspiration.

It was a morning that left all guests fired with fresh determination and enthusiasm.

Record rentals at Steyn City

Steyn City has entrenched itself as a supremely desirable address by fetching some of the largest rentals on record in the area.

Mark Williams, a realtor at Steyn City Properties, reveals that the highest price paid to date for a rental property in the development is R130 000 p.m., in a deal concluded in July. The five-bedroomed house (with five bathrooms all en-suite) is considered one of the finest in Steyn City. With plush interiors designed by Ditau Interiors, the fully furnished house features state-of-the-art integrated appliances, two reception rooms, a study area and a rim flow pool, and is valued at R21 million.

Steyn City boasts five more properties of this calibre, and another has been leased at R120 000 p.m.

Williams isn’t surprised at the lifestyle resort’s ability to fetch these prices. “Granted, there are other lifestyle estates in the area, where rentals are cheaper,” he acknowledges. “However, none of them offer the depth and breadth of experiences available at Steyn City.”

On 25 August, Gauteng Premier David Makhura and MEC for Roads and Transport, Ismail Vadi officially opened the William Nicol Drive which was upgraded at a cost of R422 million.

The official ceremony was hosted on site at Steyn City Properties where Giuseppe Plumari, CEO of Steyn City Properties was invited to address the audience including some of the workers from local communities employed in the construction and share a message of appreciation.

The developers were thanked by the Premier for their commitment to partner with government in major infrastructure upgrades as well as acknowledging that the development of the Northern corridor has been catalysed by Steyn City. Steyn City funded a third of the multi-million rand Phase 1 upgrade and is committed to partnering with The Department of Roads and Transport for Phase 2 that will link the William Nicol Drive to the N14 freeway.

MEC Vadi reported that this region has the highest pedestrian volumes in Gauteng and therefore it was important the newly constructed road reflects government’s policy shift towards ‘complete streets’, allowing for cycling and pedestrian walkways.
