Steyn City Properties, the developers of the lifestyle estate, Steyn City, under construction in Johannesburg North, made it a festive season to remember for more than 8 000 primary school children in Diepsloot on 28 November 2012.
The community witnessed Johannesburg’s largest Christmas gift drop ever as a helicopter and seven large trucks driven by Father Christmases descended on Diepsloot to give presents to the children, some of whom had never experiences a Christmas before. The event was covered by TV, radio and print, and gave journalists the opportunity of a lifetime – a helicopter flip to view the Christmas drop from the air and take aerial photographs.
Commented the principal of Reshomile Primary School, Deidre Xulu, “We have never experienced an event so exciting and so generous! It was an amazing experience for the children and teachers and for many people living here in Diepsloot. Steyn City has brought smiles to every child in our school today, and our children will have a very different Christmas as a result.”
From the outset of construction, along the William Nicol R511/K46, Steyn City Properties made it their mandate to uplift the neighbouring communities of Diepsloot and Cosmo City. The festive season gave Steyn City an opportunity to focus on the children and the spectacular Christmas gift drop will no doubt be a lifelong memory for them.
“There are many underprivileged children in Diepsloot,” says CEO of Steyn City, Giuseppe Plumari. “Today is all about them and being able to give back to some of our youngest neighbours. It was truly rewarding to see their reaction and we would like to thank everyone who helped us make this Christmas drop possible.”
